Easter Message from the Head
As we approach the Easter break, we reflect on another amazing half-term packed with learning, trips and activities. You will see in the newsletter the many opportunities students have had to enrich their learning and gain new experiences. As I write the French trip should be close to reaching France and the rehearsals for the Dance Live finals continues to create excitement.
My own favourite events this term have been the Variety Show and the Cultural Awareness day. This whole day is organised and run by the Senior Prefect Team. A special mention for Head Girl, Deborah, who did an enormous anount of organisation. Students raised £1,195.17 for Bamenda. A huge thanks to parents/carers for the amazing food from all around the world.
We have seen a tremendous amount of literacy events this term with the Spelling Bee competition, Shakespeare in Schools, Catenian Speaking competition and the literacy quiz. It was an amazing achievement for St Edmund’s to finish 1st and 2nd and score an incredible 64 out of 70.
Next half term we are pleased to offer a First Communion Program, preparing students for the next sacrament as part of their spiritual journey. We will soon be entering the exam season. Students in years 10 and 11 have been working incredibly hard towards these. They will need to continue working over Easter in order to meet the challenge of examinations. Parents and staff will continue to provide support with our ‘revision package’ due to move up to the next level.
During this season of Easter, we reflect on the themes of renewal, hope and the profound significance of Christ’s resurrection. Pope Benedict beautifully expressed “Easter is the feast of the new creation. Jesus is risen and dies no more”. We pray for the health of Pope Francis and for all those who are ill or suffering.
Easter brings that time of renewal, faith and the triumph of light over darkness. In this year of Pilgrimage, Pope Francis calls us to be ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. The tutor group assemblies this week have been a ray of hope from young Christians sharing their faith. In this season of Lent that spiritual renewal feels stronger than ever. May the peace and joy of the risen Christ be with you and your families this Easter.
Wishing you all a blessed and joyful Easter.
